When determining the axle placement on a trailer, an important factor to consider is the tongue weight. You want the tongue weight of the trailer to be approximately 10 percent of the gross trailer weight. Moving the axle rearward will increase the tongue weight of the trailer. A heavy tongue weight could cause issues with traction and sway when towing, but that is not as much of a concern on smaller trailers than it is on larger travel trailers or enclosed trailers.

The Timbren kit part # TFR150D is going to give you additional suspension support to help out with the weight of your generator, but the ideal solution will be to add more spring bar tension to your weight distribution system. The installation instructions for Curt front mount receiver # 31352, see link, do not specify any vehicle modification for installation on your 2006 Lincoln Mark LT. But it is always possible that some trimming of an air dam or fascia may be needed on some models.
